My favorite sketchblog was Tommy Kane's. I liked how graphic his sketches are, they look like they could be part of a graphic novel. Kane said "I like to exaggerate people's features because that's what makes my drawings have the personality they have." I really feel this axiom shows in his work. I love caricatures because they make everything look so outrageous; i feel if you make something you should go for it all the way. Kane doesn't try to make his sketches perfect, he focuses his energy on making his subjects more interesting. His LA sketches like the motley crue strip club or carney's express really stood out to me because of the 70's color palette and the overall vibe just screamed California, even to somebody who's never been there. Not only do his sketches have personality but his blog shows he has a good sense of humor, and the little blurbs about his artwork help you get into the story behind the sketch. I love the sketch of the squirrel, because simply "People love squirrels (including me)." It's true, I never thought about it but they're a good subject.
